The Process

Dossy works one-on-one with you in a safe, supportive environment. Focussing on authenticity, and specificity, she helps you with monologues or scenes — for stage or film auditions. Or she will guide you in creating a part for a film or a play.

Although Brenda Ueland wrote the following words for writers, they also sum up what Dossy feels is the actor's work:

"We (artists) must try to find our True Conscience, our True Self, the very Center, for this is the only first-rate choice-making center. Here lies all originality, talent, honour, truthfulness, courage and cheerfulness."

A short description of my "method":
My work with an actor is individualized & intuitive; an integration of different methods, drawing on different influences, tailored to the actor with whom I am working. One step in the work is integrating "left" brain analysis of a script to the inspiration and flow of "right" brain, intuitive acting. The creative process also includes using improvisational exercises, and playful activities, to discover new ways to contact, and then be guided and inspired by the memories/experiences that are stored in the body. Acting is a process of getting to know yourself; accessing parts of yourself that you can use for a role; freeing & trusting your imagination; centering the body into the present moment; allowing your voice to open & speak; listening, with all your senses, to the other character, and to your own inner dialogue; connecting to the intent of the words; understanding the story; believing in the context and relationships; grasping the obstacles and the stakes; discovering the "colors" and "notes" of the character; and simply, sincerely, truthfully playing the moments. The process is an exciting collaboration between coach and actor, working together, doing fun, non-threatening, yet fascinating work. The many benefits of such work include a growth in confidence, presence, expression, self-knowledge, and wholeness, as well as the integration of child-like joy with a more mature sense of beauty and truth.
